RE: Thoughts on Block's / Jack Dorsey's new DID+VC direction?

Liam,

TBD’s Web5 website looks interesting.

I wonder whether or how Web5 developers be able to deliver micro-transaction capabilities between content consumers and producers. Resembling the history of newspapers and magazines, end-users could easily click, using their browsers, to purchase an edition of a resource for a small, reasonable quantity of currency (e.g., 1 to 5 cents) and then browse through the content.

If end-users could easily use their browsers to micro-transact for access to editions of resources and to easily enter into and exit from content subscriptions, this would be convenient for content producers trying to competitively monetize quality content in marketplaces.

In this way, the next Web’s economic model needn’t be entirely advertising-based. Perhaps new economic systems will become possible with next Web technologies.

Best regards,
Adam

Subject: Thoughts on Block's / Jack Dorsey's new DID+VC direction?

Coin Telegraph article (June 10): Jack Dorsey is building ‘Web5’ powered by Bitcoin<https://cointelegraph.com/news/jack-dorsey-is-building-web5-powered-by-bitcoin>

A few quotes:

  * "Block subsidiary TBD has announced plans to build a new decentralized web centered around Bitcoin”
  *   "Web5 utilizes ION”
  * "Web5 is essentially a decentralized web platform, or DWP, that allows developers to create decentralized web apps via DIDs and decentralized nodes”

TBD’s web5 website: https://developer.tbd.website/projects-index

A few notes:

  * The components listed are DIDs, decentralized web nodes ("implementation of DIF's emerging decentralized personal datastore standard”), and a self-sovereign identity service and SDK ("that handles the full Verifiable Credentials lifecycle”).

I’m sure some of the people involved in this are part of this group! But curious more generally — what do you all think of this effort?

(Apologies if this has already been shared here!)
