Regardless of the flag or intent, Russell's post is an interesting perspective on the three terms that are the subject of this thread. Sam Smith's https://github.com/SmithSamuelM/Papers/blob/master/whitepapers/KERI_WP.web.pdf directly addresses the security and *decentralization* issues with the web. It's a must read for any discussion of pseudonymous identifiers and self-verifying content-addressable storage such as IPFS. Separately, for *blockchains*, Sign-in with Ethereum https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-4361 addresses the narrowly scoped problem of decentralized authentication and references a somewhat immature options for human-readable identifiers as ENS https://ens.domains including dereferencing to a .jpg As for *NFT*s, the link to CCG work is what happens when the .jpg is a biometric and ambient authentication https://github.com/w3c/did-use-cases/issues/113 is a fact of life. In CCG, VCs and DIDs are a given. The challenge W3C faces is how much money is being invested on protocols outside of traditional SDOs and their role as antitrust and IP solutions. - Adrian On Sat, Jan 22, 2022 at 9:05 AM Melvin Carvalho <melvincarvalho@gmail.com> wrote: > > > On Tue, 18 Jan 2022 at 18:09, John, Anil <anil.john@hq.dhs.gov> wrote: > >> Given the continuous discussions around centralization/de-centralization >> in our community, I found this essay by Moxie Marlinspike … >> >> >> >> My first impressions of web3 >> >> https://moxie.org/2022/01/07/web3-first-impressions.html >> <https://urldefense.us/v3/__https:/moxie.org/2022/01/07/web3-first-impressions.html__;!!BClRuOV5cvtbuNI!TWHO5okUoNLRfejX8R4fouQNtXHpePRJgCEMSTTdyJyd1YeYLaovlTtxC0oRLOgLPpNr$> >> >> >> >> … to have aspects that have relevance to the DID/VC work. >> >> >> >> If you don’t know who Moxie Marlinspike is, recommend doing a bit of due >> diligence to find out. >> > > Hi John, you may also find Alex Russell's (formerly of the W3C TAG) post > on this topic relevant > > https://infrequently.org/2022/01/washed-up/ > > There was a call for W3C to make a statement on the use of such this form > of "web washing", and I personally hope that they do > >> >> >> >> Best Regards, >> >> >> >> Anil >> >> >> >> Anil John >> >> Technical Director, Silicon Valley Innovation Program >> >> Science and Technology Directorate >> >> US Department of Homeland Security >> >> Washington, DC, USA >> >> >> >> Email Response Time – 24 Hours >> >> >> >> [image: A picture containing graphical user interface Description >> automatically generated] <https://www.dhs.gov/science-and-technology>[image: >> /Users/holly.johnson/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Outlook/Data/Library/Caches/Signatures/signature_1972159395] >> >> >> >
