DIF Interop Speaker: Bob Blakley OG of Identity Standards & Interop

HI CCG,

I wanted to let you know about our call this week - because we have a great
speaker Bob Blakley <https://team8.vc/team/bob-blakley/> coming to share
some stories of past identity interoperability efforts. He is really one
of the OG's in the field who helped the SAML protocols come together and
lead efforts around interoperability with OpenID and the OSIS work
<http://osis.idcommons.net/wiki/Main_Page>. Since we are all pondering our
interopness in various ways - I thought folks from this list might enjoy
learning from him too.

My hope is that he can help us learn from his expertise and
wisdom facilitating interoperability in earlier era's of this industry's
work. I think he will have some good stories to share and will be able to
answer questions about that history that can help us inform our work now
together.

Bob has several things he will be discussing.

   - The history of how the SAML committee was formed,
   - the principles that allowed us to get to consensus in a very
contentious environment with competing interests (mostly doing no more than
what everyone could agree was absolutely necessary),
   - Some thoughts about starting with a base document vs. no base
   document,
   - The importance of multiple interoperable implementations, and how that
   gets demonstrated,
   - a bit of history of how IIW facilitated interops OSIS,
   - the importance of publishing the interop scenario and success criteria
in advance so everyone has lots of time to test before the event,
   - the importance of publishing the interop results.

He may also touch on how it makes a difference to have dinner with each
other a lot to form relationships, and also how important it is to have a
picture of what you’re building (which Hal Lockhart provided in the case of
SAML)

The meeting will be at 2pm Pacific 5 Eastern time on this Wednesday Feb
9th.

Any one is welcome - the call is non-IPR protected because we don't do
original work.
