Hi VCWG (BCC: CCG), TL;DR: Update the VC Extensions Registry to reflect the current state of VC extension implementations. One of the W3C VCWG's Deliverables[1] is the Verifiable Credentials Extension Registry[2]. This registry has been out of date for a while, and that recently became an issue with another standards-setting organization (IMS Global) when they went to recommend a proof method[3] for their work that builds on top of Verifiable Credentials. I've made a pass at updating the registry to be more helpful to people and organizations that are not involved in the week-to-week with VCWG or CCG. The update, which adds proof methods, links to specs, implementations, and test suites can be found here: https://pr-preview.s3.amazonaws.com/w3c-ccg/vc-extension-registry/pull/12.html#proof-methods The pull request[4] involves a few things that are worth noting: 1. It doesn't change the registration process, which could use a refresh based on lessons learned in the DIDWG, but that would need a debate before it was changed. 2. It removes the "Authors" field, as that information is duplicative of what's listed on each specification. 3. It adds links to implementations (since implementations are required for registration) and test suites. 4. It renames the "Stability" field to "Status" and expresses the document status -- every registered extension at present is a "Community Draft". 5. Most importantly, it adds specifications that have implementations that have been missing from the registry for years. This is the real reason for the update -- ensuring that the registry reflects implementations. I do believe it changes things in a positive way without changing the intent or process of the registry. I'm broadcasting this to the VCWG and CCG to get more eyes on this change. Normally, we'd just wait 2 weeks to see if there would be any objections and merge, but given that this is the first change to the registry in a /very long time/, we should probably be a bit more deliberate about it. If you are interested, please take a look at the PR and provide your input: https://github.com/w3c-ccg/vc-extension-registry/pull/12 -- manu [1]https://www.w3.org/2020/12/verifiable-credentials-wg-charter.html#deliverables [2]https://w3c-ccg.github.io/vc-extension-registry/ [3]https://github.com/IMSGlobal/openbadges-specification/issues/331 [4]https://github.com/w3c-ccg/vc-extension-registry/pull/12 -- Manu Sporny - https://www.linkedin.com/in/manusporny/ Founder/CEO - Digital Bazaar, Inc.
