Hi all, Overall, there is some good news wrt. Credentials from W3C TPAC. The Credentials presentation was allotted 45 minutes during the Web Payments Interest Group face-to-face meeting at the W3C Technical Plenary (W3C TPAC) this week. The tenor of the conversation this time around was much more positive (with a number of people expressing reservations, but not objecting to an attempt to formulate a properly scoped Working Group charter). The group motioned to extend the time to discuss credentials to double the time allotted (for the 8+ presentations, we were unique in generating such a massive amount of discussion - mostly positive). The bottom line is that the Web Payments Interest Group thinks that Credentials are a high priority and that we should start gathering supporting material together to write a draft working group charter. Some of this supporting material that we're missing is an explanation around why OpenID Connect, SAML, and a variety of the other technologies don't work for our use cases. In other words, we have to justify what makes this work different from everything else that has come before it. The W3C staff were largely supportive of the initiative now, as were many of the Web Payments IG members. The group has asked me to champion the creation of a plan to start a Credentials WG and propose it to the Web Payments Interest Group for approval in the next couple of weeks. Note that this is a better outcome than we had hoped for, so when we get back from W3C TPAC, it'll be time for the Credentials CG to hunker down and work on getting a plan to form a Credentials WG formulated quickly. -- manu -- Manu Sporny (skype: msporny, twitter: manusporny, G+: +Manu Sporny) Founder/CEO - Digital Bazaar, Inc. blog: Meritora - Web payments commercial launch http://blog.meritora.com/launch/
