Hi, COGA folks re: CFC – Updating WCAG 3 working draft ends Friday, May 10th at 10:00 Boston time.

Hi, COGA folks, I'm sharing some context about AG's call for consensus
(CFC) that ends this Friday, May 10th at 10am Boston time:

*Purpose of this CFC:*

   - To approve an exploratory draft of the WCAG 3 outcomes so we can
publish the draft and seek input from the public.

*Please focus on the outcomes in this exploratory draft:*

   - The CFC is for this exploratory draft
   <https://raw.githack.com/w3c/wcag3/guidelines_update_april_24/guidelines/index.html#processes-and-task-completion>,
which lists about 200 WCAG 3 outcomes:
      - The outcomes are sorted into 12 groups that combine and de-dupe the
work of many subgroups, including COGA's "Clear Language" subgroup.
      - The draft currently only includes a one-sentence description of
each outcome so it is relatively easy to skim at this point.
      - The list of outcomes may change over time as each outcome is
   developed.
   - New outcomes can be added if a gap is identified.
      - Outcomes may be removed if there is not enough evidence to support
      keeping them in the draft.
   - *Key point: *Approving this CFC does not lock W3C into this list of
outcomes. Outcomes can be added and removed *after* this CFC.

*No need to review conformance in this exploratory draft:*

   - You do *not* need to review the conformance section of this draft.
   - It has not changed since the previous version of this draft.
   - It will be discussed in detail later this year.

*COGA members have had a lot of input on the draft outcomes:*

   - *Clear Language subgroup: *
      - All of COGA's Clear Language outcomes are in this exploratory draft.
      - Our subgroup reviewed and approved the placement of our Clear
Language outcomes in three sections of this exploratory draft:
         - Text and wording
         <https://raw.githack.com/w3c/wcag3/guidelines_update_april_24/guidelines/index.html#text-and-wording>:
This section includes the bulk of COGA's "Clear Language"
outcomes, plus a
few outcomes from Jeanne Spellman's "Text Appearances and Semantics"
         subgroup.
         - Layout
         <https://raw.githack.com/w3c/wcag3/guidelines_update_april_24/guidelines/index.html#layout>:
This section includes several COGA's Clear language outcomes,
including
white spacing, multistep process, and section headers/length/purpose.
         - Images and media alternatives
         <https://raw.githack.com/w3c/wcag3/guidelines_update_april_24/guidelines/index.html#image-and-media-alternatives>:
This section includes Clear Language's outcome about
explaining non-verbal
cues such as tone of voice, facial expressions, body
gestures, or music
         with emotional meaning.
      - See the minutes from the Clear Language April 18th meeting
      <https://www.w3.org/2024/04/18-coga-minutes.html> for more details.
      - *Help and Error Prevention:*
      - Jennie and John K. have been involved in the WCAG 3 outcomes about
providing help and preventing errors, which appear in these
sections of the
      exploratory draft:
         - Forms, inputs, and errors
         <https://raw.githack.com/w3c/wcag3/guidelines_update_april_24/guidelines/index.html#forms-inputs-and-errors>
         - Processes and task completion
         <https://raw.githack.com/w3c/wcag3/guidelines_update_april_24/guidelines/index.html#processes-and-task-completion>
         - Help and feedback
