Hi, folks, sorry I'm sending this info a few few day late! In a few
minutes, I will send a separate reminder about tomorrow's Clear Language
meeting, thanks.
Summary:
-
We discussed feedback from the larger COGA taskforce on our original
approach of having fewer outcomes with several methods that nest under
these “umbrella” outcomes. COGA members raised concerns, including:
-
Clustering concepts that don't fit neatly together under same
outcome, e.g., explaining uncommon words, acronyms & abbreviations, and
ambiguous pronunciation (Lisa)
-
Complicating the challenge of writing testable outcomes (Jennie)
-
Making it harder for guideline users to find the information they
need (Rain)
-
We briefly discussed our previous debates about whether it's better to
have narrower outcomes that are easier to test or broader outcomes that are
easier to learn and remember.
-
We decided to split our original 5 outcomes into 20 outcomes that are
each narrow enough to only have one test per outcome.
-
We reviewed half of the expanded list and will review the rest at our
next meeting.
-
Jeanne recommended moving the original 5 outcomes to the appendix and
including notes so that others can understand the debates we’ve
had and how
we arrived at current list.
-
Jeanne will ask Rachael to confirm she’s OK with our sprint plan of
finishing drafts of all the outcomes (so our working draft has breadth)
and including tests for at least one outcome (Common Words) so our working
draft has at least some depth).
