Re: Civic Technologies Journal

Civic Technology Community Group,

Yes I am excited about this new idea. A new journal will greatly benefit the civic-technology community.

Thank you for those hyperlinks. Creating a Task Force for this project makes sense. I, for one, will read up on starting a journal to better understand the next steps.

Best regards,
Adam

P.S.: With respect to AI and Open Government topics, there is to be a first Workshop (https://aiog.net/cfp/) co-located at the 21st International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Law (ICAIL 2026), Singapore, June 8, 2026.

Subject: Civic Technologies Journal

Civic Technology Fellows,

I proposed to Adam, and he is joyful about it, that we start an academic 'Civic Technologies Journal (CTJ)' to promote our group among coherent scholars, institutions, and expand its researches even further.

For that purpose we shall:
1. Understand Open Access Journal (which is itself one of the most important and used civic techs we have worldwide):
https://publishingstate.com/how-to-start-an-open-access-journal/2023
& https://coalition-s.org/diamond-open-access
2. Those interested in becoming peer reviewers take a due certificate in peer reviewing, like the Institute of Physics (IOP) 'Peer Review Excellence' (which takes a few days of effort):
https://ioppublishing.org/researchers/peer-review-excellence-training-and-certification
3. Write our first issue call for papers and call for peer reviewers and publish it among the civic tech international community, so please add more institutions and scholar to our Civic Technologies Database (CTDb):
https://pad.riseup.net/p/w3c-civic-tech
4. We create a collective email for the group. I recommend civictech@proton.me<mailto:civictech@proton.me> using the CERN Proton Mail:
https://proton.me/mail
5. We develop the journal at our friends of the MIT Future Lab's PubPub open access journals platform due to their advanced laboratories network:
https://pubpub.org
6. We create a CERN Zenodo archive to have a proper Digital Object Identification (DOI):
https://zenodo.org
7. If you find necessary we may also certificate for a physical hardcopy of the journals International Standard Serial Number (ISSN):
https://issn.org

Since I am overwhelmed by United Nations (UN) humanitarian works in several war zones while dangerously underpaid I cannot commit myself to help more than 4h a week on these matters. Please do join us in this task force.
