Dear all, I wanted to give everyone an update on what has been happening and, as Chunming keeps reminding me, start thinking seriously about the next meeting at Beihang which is now only 2 months away. Easy stuff first; the report from the London meeting is available in both EN and ZH at [1]. More awkward to report - the W3C/OGC WG has not yet begun work on Coverages in Linked Data and is unlikely to do so this month. I don't have much confidence of them starting next month either, but that doesn't prevent this small group making its own recommendations. A key issue we raised in London was the need for means to identify subsets of large datasets (such as coverages). Activity ======== A very active discussion on this topic has been taking place in recent days on mailing lists associated with both the Spatial Data WG (the joint OGC/W3C one) and the more general W3C Data on the Web Best Practices WG. See [2] onwards. Those lists are open to anyone to post to and I encourage you to do so, especially our Chinese colleagues. In the coming couple of weeks, I want to start writing text for the report, following the structure we agreed in London. By the time we leave Beijing, we should have sufficient material to complete it, or at least know exactly what gaps need to be filled. It will be important, obviously, that the document reflects both Chinese and UK experiences. Beijing ======= Chunming has begun a wiki page with information about the meeting [3]. Simon, Geoffrey and I will need to confirm how many UK places can be funded - and we'll need to go through the formal invitation/visa application process beginning imminently. As ever, the near future prospect of a face to face meeting acts as a deadline which acts as an impetus to be able to show real progress! Cheers for now Phil.
