Hi all, If any of you are here early, feel free to join the MIT Digital Currency Initiative at 2 PM today (Tuesday) as we discuss the DAO! http://whereis.mit.edu/?go=E15 ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Chelsea Barabas <cbarabas@media.mit.edu> Date: Mon, Jun 27, 2016 at 3:20 PM Subject: TOMORROW: Debriefing the DAO To: ml-all@media.mit.edu, dci-research@mit.edu, dci-urops-2016@mit.edu What: Debrief on The DAO Hack <http://www.wired.com/2016/06/50-million-hack-just-showed-dao-human/> When: 2-3:30pm Where: E15 359 Food: Pizza will be served Hosted by: Digital Currency Initiative *Description* Over the course of the last month, the first major decentralized governance experiment on Ethereum launched and failed spectacularly. The experiment was called the Distributed Autonomous Organization (aka the DAO). The idea received a lot of interest. A lot. In a matter of just a couple of weeks, the DAO had raised over $150 million from people who wanted to participate. This was cause for both celebration and alarm - the DAO had suddenly become a very high stakes social experiment. Just last week a hacker found an exploit in the DAO’s code, which enabled them to drain more than $20 million of that funding in a matter of hours. Join us tomorrow for a debrief with one of the curators involved with the DAO project to learn what exactly happened and what this means for Ethereum moving forward. -- http://nehanaru.la | @neha
