Daniel, Adnan and I met today to discuss the single tree topic so I could understand their perspective and share my concerns more. What we agreed on: *Gen2 should not be completely wide open and meant to try to handle any taxonomy in widely varied formats and should remain focused on our (vehicle specific) needs. We are not trying to create an API to end all APIs but provide a consistent one for in-vehicle usage that may be used by additional domains (media, notifications, weather, etc) *It should be able to accommodate additional domain taxonomies besides VSS. Other taxonomies would need to conform to clearly defined structures. *Other APIs (including proprietary) for different data sources may exist and be used in-vehicle instead of Gen2. *Relationship to vehicle needs to be clearly defined for additional taxonomies for developer discovery. In my opinion, we should relax the single tree wording in the spec but until we have additional proposed domain taxonomies to help define needed commonalities we will keep examples VSS. Please provide feedback in this thread or on PR 315 as I will suggest some wording in a commit to that PR. https://github.com/w3c/automotive/pull/315 -- Ted Guild <ted@w3.org> W3C Automotive Lead https://www.w3.org/auto
