OpenAjax evaluation library rules allow both native semantics or ARIA to satisfy a rule requirements

Frank,

The OpenAjax evaluation library rules do not specifically differentiate between HTML5 and HTML4 techniques for satisfying the requirements of a particular rule, the applicable native semantics of HTML/CSS or ARIA can be used to meet the requirements of a rule.

Some rules require the use of ARIA for example “Landmark 1 - main landmark: at least one” or “Landmark 2 - All content must be contained in landmarks". These rules are required in the ARIA+HTM5 ruleset and are not included in the HTML4 ruleset since the HTML4 ruleset does not require the use of ARIA.

If you review the comparison of the two rulesets you can see that the “applicable” ARIA rules are considered a recommendation in the HTML4 ruleset. So if you start using ARIA those rules will be applied even in the HTML4 ruleset. It is just the required ARIA rules that are not included in the HTML4 ruleset.

Hi Jon,

in the rules we check for SC Failures as well as Passes based on the recommended techniques. The ARIA- and HTML5-specs are considered. The best example may be the use of the Text Alternative Computation Algorithm<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.w3.org_community_auto-2Dwcag_wiki_Text-5FAlternative-5FComputation&d=CwMFaQ&c=8hUWFZcy2Z-Za5rBPlktOQ&r=REZD8fc2AwufInstfW3L5jSLVS8bjZtAodDOhat7yAI&m=SMLEqWFBKE85r8ZMOjmla7oyK_vTi_IaeHZwTB5AeMQ&s=huW7IBu_4cPhmnC2V0u8-SHu8uNq4kN0MpTWeol3l5o&e=> in most test cases of SC 1.1.1.
As for as I know, ee did not explicitly distinguish between legacy HTML and HTML5 as the OAA-rules do.

Besides, I really like the outcomes of the OpenAjax-Alliance. I haven't watched it for a couple of month and it's really matured.

Best regards
Frank

Frank,

Are the rules just about representing WCAG SC Failures (basically you did something wrong)?

What about the design patterns in ARIA 1.1 and HTML5?

ARIA 1.1 and HTML5 design patterns are what the OAA Rules are based on:

Hi everyone,
as you may have heard, we set up an additional call focusing on rule design.
And you may also have heard, that the rules went to GitHub. The repo is at MailScanner has detected a possible fraud attempt from "urldefense.proofpoint.com" claiming to be https://github.com/auto-wcag/auto-wcag<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__github.com_auto-2Dwcag_auto-2Dwcag&d=CwMFaQ&c=8hUWFZcy2Z-Za5rBPlktOQ&r=REZD8fc2AwufInstfW3L5jSLVS8bjZtAodDOhat7yAI&m=1Wbkb59XxOUAjziYj2bm6Wdz4Cy2DXhPh7hdWB2ER6U&s=srvSo-ayMIof8vcqg1yjQtIvWSIG8r-4HiL3l_Khgpk&e=>.
To contribute to the rules, you have to use pull-requests on that repo. The documentation for doing that can be found here: <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__help.github.com_articles_using-2Dpull-2Drequests_&d=CwMFaQ&c=8hUWFZcy2Z-Za5rBPlktOQ&r=REZD8fc2AwufInstfW3L5jSLVS8bjZtAodDOhat7yAI&m=1Wbkb59XxOUAjziYj2bm6Wdz4Cy2DXhPh7hdWB2ER6U&s=7EZpu2UGNpdTVfm9OTjfX2hgiT5mQocr47vzZf9z0HE&e=> MailScanner has detected a possible fraud attempt from "urldefense.proofpoint.com" claiming to be<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__help.github.com_articles_using-2Dpull-2Drequests_&d=CwMFaQ&c=8hUWFZcy2Z-Za5rBPlktOQ&r=REZD8fc2AwufInstfW3L5jSLVS8bjZtAodDOhat7yAI&m=1Wbkb59XxOUAjziYj2bm6Wdz4Cy2DXhPh7hdWB2ER6U&s=7EZpu2UGNpdTVfm9OTjfX2hgiT5mQocr47vzZf9z0HE&e=>https://help.github.com/articles/using-pull-requests/<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__help.github.com_articles_using-2Dpull-2Drequests_&d=CwMFaQ&c=8hUWFZcy2Z-Za5rBPlktOQ&r=REZD8fc2AwufInstfW3L5jSLVS8bjZtAodDOhat7yAI&m=SMLEqWFBKE85r8ZMOjmla7oyK_vTi_IaeHZwTB5AeMQ&s=FzFVAKes17q8LtqkA9qe-UA0lCOuVWsk8_m7Bk6D-AU&e=>
