Hello,

We are kicking off an open source CAN Bus firewall project in order to stop a compromised IVI from disrupting safety critical vehicle systems.

The CANFW project is a hardware solution filtering traffic between the IVI and the CAN bus. The system is programmable, throughthe CAN bus itself, using rules signed by a device-specific key.

We will create a demo where we push new CAN rules over the air, using RVI, from a backend server down to a CANFW unit.

A discussion has been started on how CANFW will fit into the wider picture of Automotive Message Broker, Genivi, and AGL. The aim is to get a holistic and interconnected set of technologies out allowing the OEMs to mitigate the effects of compromised IVIs.

As per usual, comments, questions, and criticism are most welcome.
