Background on WCAG 2

Comment:
The third paragraph, in English, reads:
“Significant challenges were encountered in defining additional criteria to address cognitive, language, and learning disabilities, including a short timeline for development as well as challenges in reaching consensus on testability, implementability, and international considerations of proposals”.
The equivalent paragraph in French reads :
« Des obstacles considérables ont été rencontrés dans le cadre de l’identification de critères supplémentaires afin de prendre en compte les troubles cognitifs, linguistiques et d’apprentissage, notamment d’un court délai pour le développement. D’autres difficultés ont été rencontrées pour obtenir un consensus sur la testabilité, la capacité de mise en œuvre et les considérations internationales des propositions”.
(a) Comment 1: (Suggestion/question) “défi” would seem to be a word which reflects more accurately a “challenge” as compared with the word “obstacle”. Défi, in addition, has a more positive connotation. With this in mind, could the translation “des défis importants” be used rather than “obstacles considérables”?
(b) Comment 2: (Suggestion/question) Can “définition de critères supplémentaires ” be used instead of « identification de critères supplémentaires » as the English version refers to “defining” rather than “identifying”?
(c) Comment 3: (just a question) How important is it to reflect the same format in English? The single sentence in English has been split into two sentences in French and I understand that it is for clarity (which also would have been good in English). Could the following merging of sentences be possible (in order to reflect the English style) or is there a strong preference to keep two sentences?
Des défis importants ont été rencontrés dans la définition de critères supplémentaires afin de prendre en compte les troubles cognitifs, linguistiques et d’apprentissage, y compris un court délai de développement ainsi que les défis qui arrivent à atteindre un consensus sur la testabilité, la capacité de mise en œuvre et les considérations internationales des propositions.

Answer:
The reviewing committee agrees to modify the paragraph according to comment 1 and 2 but does not approve the use of one long sentence that we do not consider to be clear enough.

New proposal as follows will be added in the final translation:

« Des défis importants ont été rencontrés dans le cadre de la définition de critères supplémentaires afin de prendre en compte les troubles cognitifs, linguistiques et d’apprentissage, notamment un court délai pour le développement. D’autres défis ont été rencontrés pour obtenir un consensus sur la testabilité, la capacité de mise en œuvre et les considérations internationales des propositions. »
