On another thread Tim Terriberry mentioned that Vorbis hasn't needed to support channel layouts beyond the one-layout-per-number-of-channels defined in the specification (for the last 15 years anyway). Web Audio's a slightly different realm but it suggests at least a similar approach for Web Audio will suffice for version 1.
