Dear WAI Colleagues: You are cordially invited to attend a one hour meeting to learn about a plan to migrate W3C to a new organizational structure. Teleconference details, background information, and some in advance preparation suggestions follow below. *** Logistics *** The teleconference is being hosted by APA as follows: What: Special Teleconference: Introduction for WAI groups to a proposed Legal Entity (LE) for W3C When: Wednesday 9 March 10:00 AM Boston -- U.S. Eastern Time (EST: UTC -5:00) Corresponding times in other time zones are: http://timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Proposed+W3C+Legal+Entity&iso=20220309T10&p1=43&ah=1 Where: Zoom Teleconference Service https://www.w3.org/2017/08/telecon-info_apa IRC: irc.w3.org Channel: #apa Chair: Janina Scribe: Matthew agenda+ Overview presentation agenda+ Answering questions from email agenda+ Other questions agenda+ Be done *** Background *** You may or may not be aware that the W3C does not exist as a legal organisation. It has been based on an agreement between four different host organisations (in Europe, China, Japan, and America). This structure presents some challenges as years and decades pass by. So, the W3C intends to reorganize for better sustainability, transitioning to a single "Legal Entity (LE)." As you might imagine, this is a complex task, and one that has been under discussion and development over several years, with help from the Advisory Board (AB). As we come closer to the time of transition, it's important that the people who participate at W3C have a chance to find out more and to ask questions - because W3C is a member oriented community after all. On Wednesday 9 March, APA member Léonie Watson will be joined by Chris Wilson, Tzviya Siegman, Tantek Çelik, David Singer, and Eric Siow, all of whom have been active in the work towards the new LE. They'll give you an update on the LE, and answer any questions you might have. *** Action to Take *** 1. Please add this call to your calendar! 2. Please forward any questions to public-apa@w3.org, one question per email please, with the keyword "[W3C]" in the Subject: of your message. We will collate similar questions ahead of the teleconference, so please get your email in before close of business on Tuesday 8 March. Questions received by email will be taken up first following a brief introduction. 3. Once questions submitted by email have been addressed, we will open the queue for questions that arise during the meeting. NOTE: This invitation has been extended to all WAI groups in W3C/WAI, including AG, APA, ARIA, and EO, as well as their task forces and subgroups. All are welcome.
