I think the name computation steps could be clearer about when text is to be trimmed. There is only a note in the beginning of https://www.w3.org/TR/accname-aam-1.1/#accessible-name-and-description-mapping saying "An implementation trims the text and concatenates it with the text alternative computed by previous steps." (which is itself confusing because the algorithm only has two steps, and the first step initializes the accumulated text to the empty string; the sub-steps in step 2 are explicit about when to accumulate text) I agree Firefox's implementation seems in the correct spirit.
