I originally built the APG examples to respond to both space and enter key, so that was my understanding too.

So I think the ARIA Authoring Practices group should clarify their concerns over supporting the “enter” key on buttons.

One example that was raised in the APG teleconference last week, is when someone is in a dialog box, the “enter” key is associated with the close button, so if someone is on a different button in the dialog box and presses “enter”, instead of activating the button action, the activate the close button and close the dialog box. This can be very confusing/frustrating.
[Jason] Yes, but surely the button which has focus should have a chance to respond to the event first, before the “close” button receives it.
