Joanie noted in FF bugzilla that the object attribute that ATK/AT-SPI uses for placeholders is "placeholder-text" and has been for a while.  She would like to keep it that way for the aria-placeholder mapping:

Alex has confirmed this with James Teh in terms of the name of the object attribute for IA2 on the IA2 lists:

Recommend updating the MSAA+IA2 mapping to "placeholder-text" instead of the current "placeholder" property:
