+1 to the proposal, though it should be noted that for current assistive technology support, setting the implicit role explicitly is sometimes required. e.g. aria-labelledby is not widely announced when used on a <form. element, but it is announced in more user agent/a.t. combinations when role="form" is added to the <form> element. Therefore we occasionally still have to add the explicit role for maximum a.t. support. Hopefully this CFC and the ARIA 1.1 spec can help eliminate this need.
