All, thank you for today's enlightening discussion of date pickers that open calendar grids. Based on today's discussion, I've posted these two questions in the issue for development of the date picker combo example: 1. Where should focus go after a date is chosen from the grid in the dialog? If it goes to the text field, that pops open mobile keyboards. If it goes to the down arrow icon, it is confusing for screen reader and keyboard users who moved focus into the dialog from the text field with down arrow. 2. When should the dialog be visually displayed? It is very common for calendars to display when the text field is focused or clicked. Does that mean the user has to move focus out of the input to get the calendar to disappear? Here is a link to the comment: https://github.com/w3c/aria-practices/issues/34#issuecomment-460387017 To move date picker forward, let's target the end of the meeting on Monday Feb 11 for having consensus on the answers to these questions that will be applied to Jon's current example work. Obviously, we may agree that there are several possible good answers, but we need to choose a set that will be illustrated with this example. Step 1 is to get some possible approaches on the table. Remember that we want a set of answers that are acceptable for both desktop/keyboard interfaces and mobile/touch interfaces. Matt King
