fantasai has just labeled an issue for https://github.com/w3c/a11y-request as "REVIEW REQUESTED": == CSS Anchor Positioning Level 1 2025-12-23 > 2026-01-30 == We are flexible on the deadline for comments. Jan 30th is just the last day of our next F2F. :) The following one is likely to be in April. We are happy to work with APA continuously on improvements. - name of spec to be reviewed: CSS Anchor Positioning Level 1 - shortname: css-anchor-position-1 - URL of spec: https://www.w3.org/TR/css-anchor-position-1/ - Current Rec/Note phase? Working Draft - What and when is your next expected transition? Candidate Recommendation hopefully sometime mid-2026. There are still some technical details to be worked out, but based on TPAC discussions with APA, we don't anticipate any changes that would affect accessibility implementation work between now and CR (though there is room for improvement on authoring guidance). - What has changed since any previous review? We discussed some of the core concerns at TPAC and updated the [accessibility guidance](https://www.w3.org/TR/css-anchor-position-1/#accessibility) accordingly, but I don't believe the spec has received a formal accessibility review yet. We think that section [could still use some improvement](https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/10311) to function as effective guidance for authors, but we don't have the authoring expertise for it. We welcome any suggestions for improvement. - Please point to the results of your [self-review](https://w3c.github.io/fast/checklist.html) Nothing particularly interesting to report. - Where and how to file issues arising? https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues with `[css-anchor-position-1]` tagged in the title. See [existing issues](https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues?q=state%3Aopen%20label%3Acss-anchor-position-1%20label%3Aa11y-tracker). - Pointer to any explainer for the spec? Aside from the explanatory material in the spec itself, https://ishadeed.com/article/anchor-positioning/ is a pretty good introduction. Other comments: This spec is now implemented (as of this fall) to some extent in all three major browser engines. We expect author adoption to pick up throughout 2026 and 2027 as interoperability improves, and for Anchor Positioning to become a core layout feature of the Web Platform. Our two major concerns wrt accessibility are 1.) ensuring that the spec's guidance is good enough to help the authoring community write educational materials that demonstrate and encourage accessibility best practices and 2.) ensuring that HTML provides adequate semantic markup support for any common use cases that need accessibility bindings. The editors (@tabatkins and myself) are happy to join an APA call or work more directly with anyone who wants to help; please email us directly for scheduling. To organize a joint meeting or breakout with the CSSWG, please reach out to our chair, Alan Stearns.
