[turingtest] Inaccessibility of CAPTCHA Feedback

To the Working Group,

Congratulations on the latest revision to the Inaccessibility of CAPTCHA Note – it’s important work that we hope continues.

Following a review of the Working Group Note, we (Intopia) have some feedback on the current draft.

1.2 – The Accessibility Challenge

Examples that are provided in the note should be extended to include matching patterns in graphics (for example identifying traffic lights) and sliding jigsaw pieces, so that more types of CAPTCHAs are specifically referenced in the Note.

References to WCAG if possible should reference just WCAG 2 (rather than a specific WCAG 2.x) to cover all iterations of Version 2 of WCAG (as we’re currently uncertain if this will specifically be referenced in WCAG 3.0).

2.1.5 - Biometrics

We ask that the Working Group consider people with disabilities such as facial distortion (which can change over time) as this can impact on facial recognition.

2.2 – Non-Interactive Standalone Features

Greater emphasis on placing the burden of preventing spam and DDOS attacks on site infrastructure (and not on site visitors) should be specified at the start of this section.

2.2.4 – Honeypots

Emphasising the point of correctly implementing honeypots should be included here, as we’ve identified that incorrect implementations can impact on users who use autofill.

3.1 Public-Key Infrastructure (PKI)

We suggest the inclusion of a recommendation that people who choose this approach should pay careful attention to usability, since the process can be difficult to get started for ‘non-technical users’ (a moderate to high level of technical confidence or skill seems to be required here).

If you need any clarification (or would like some further information) on our feedback, please contact us at chris@intopia.digital<mailto:chris@intopia.digital>.

We thank you again for your work in getting the latest draft to this stage, and we look forward to the final version of the Note to reference publicly and include in our future work.

Regards,
Intopia
