Open, explainable and ethical AI is the way to go. Neuro-symbolic and biologically inspired cognitive architectures seem to brush aside  very important issues, namely that evolution is not perfect which in practice translates into hardwired shortcuts and biases by default in our cognitive processes as a consequence of evolutionary processes.
Omitting these and creating non-biased AI will lead exactly to faultless and flawless AI, that if it becomes self-aware in AGI somewhere in the foreseeable future may decide we are a problem.
