Re: NCNP, NASW, AI & StratML

If we want to create a WG, we need to be VERY PRECISE about what is understood by AI systems, because we need to have a VERY CLEAR and wide consensus acceptance of what is an AI system. There are various quite similar but not universally accepted definitions, the broadest I have seen is the EU definition.
Or we could create a registry in which we indicate for each system to which AI definitions adherence is the case.
IMHO it is NOT our task to define standard definitions for AI.

sure, perhaps share your initial thoughts as a draft for discussion here, then when the draft is ready internallly we should reach out to as manypeople as we see fitI d probably call it a Open and Shared representation for Registers of AI systemssomewhere I have some cases that we could use to validate it ínternally before asking others to comment/approveP

Acknowledged - we need a mission statement that explains the work output and target outcome for the Register of AI systems. Perhaps we should reach out to the authors of the study?

Carl, Following your suggstion should we advertise the proposed WG with a mission statement and within this CG as well as on the SWIG list and around? If we can recruit 15 members, we could make a start, if we dong, we would stall the WG until we do

Thank you CarlGreat to see a plan towards this!
I cannot find the invitation to the meeting though, was it posted to the list or sent to individuals, and if the latterwhy did I not receive it? when was the meeting held, who participated? I cannot see this informtionfrom the mail that Owen sent, but my inbox is a jungle/
Is this work part of the CG activities or independent?
if it is part of the AI KR CG, then please share the minutes, names of attendees etc (so we can keep a record ofwho decided what when etc), Also, if it is, please ask the other meeting participants to join the CG group mailing list perhaps?Let us know how you wish to proceed and what kind of input can members give, when, how etcThank you!!

Paola, et al
At our 'leveraging StratML for AIKR Value Chain meeting we agreed -
'Register of Charities' provide a good reference for Registry AI Systems .. both benefit from "statement of values", "code of ethics" etc..
Next steps towards making a decision to form a Working Group for Registry AI Systems (with approx 15 members) is to identify whom would be beneficiaries (using Business Model Canvas elements) .. .KP = Key Partners the strategy relays on (and for what)
KA = Key Activities performed to deliver its value propositions
KR = Key Resources need to deliver its value propositions
VP = Value Proposition the strategy offers to its customers
CR = Customer Relationships the strategy will impact
CH = Channels used to deliver (products or services) output to its customer
CS = Customer Segments the strategy will serve
C$ = Cost Structure
R$ = Revenue Structure
Concurrently we will work towards publishing our 'AI Strategist' strategy using StratMl elements.

Carl, your message prompted me to add to the StratML collection the about statements for the National Council of Nonprofits (NCNP) and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), respectively, at https://stratml.us/drybridge/index.htm#NCNP & https://stratml.us/drybridge/index.htm#NASW

I just sent an invitation to Rick Cohen to connect on LinkedIn. If he accepts, I'll ask him about prospects in engaging the NCNP in fostering the use of StratML by small, medium-sized, and local charities.

Chris, I'll also be interested to learn if they are collaborating with Charity Navigator and GuideStar on performance reporting. As one point of evidence, their CEO, Tim Delaney, is not connected with Michael Thatcher on LinkedIn. https://www.linkedin.com/in/ctdelaney/ | https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelthatcher/

On the other hand, they receive a perfect (100) rating in Charity Navigator's new system -- https://www.charitynavigator.org/ein/521689643 -- and they are also GuideStar Platinum rated: https://www.guidestar.org/profile/52-1689643

With regard to prospects for creating a registry of AI systems, to the degree that they are being developed by U.S. nonprofits, it seems that Charity Navigator's new rating system already performs that function to a limited extent -- at least with respect to full-text query capabilities. To see the results of an "AI" query of their database, click here.

Paola, AI-Taiwan tops the list of 77.

Stephen, an "artificial intelligence" query turns up only 17 hits.

If those orgs were publishing their plans and reports in StratML format and Charity Navigator was indexing that data, it would be interesting to see how AI might be applied to analyze it and what more might be needed beyond. I hope and trust Alan and his colleagues can appreciate the power of that prospect, not just for AI agents but for all prospective "performers" as well as their intended beneficiaries and other stakeholders, e.g., regulatory agencies.

A query of GuideStar also turns up a bunch (256) organizations whose descriptions include the term "artificial intelligence". However, unlike Charity Navigator, GuideStar doesn't appear to support the sharing of query links. https://www.guidestar.org/search

It will be great when Federal agencies are complying with section 10 of GPRAMA so that capabilities like the charitable rating services can be automatically applied to their programs. It will be wonderful when academic institutions and agencies at all levels of government are also applying that good practice by publishing their performance plans and reports on their own websites in StratML format.

  https://www.councilofnonprofits.org/tools-resources/code-of-ethics-nonprofits-why-your-nonprofit-may-want-adopt-statement-of-values

The Council of Nonprofits encourages all nonprofits to craft an appropriate "statement of values" or "code of ethics" for your nonprofit. For some charitable nonprofits it may be appropriate that their codes incorporate standards already adopted by certain professional groups. (An example might be a charitable nonprofit that employs licensed clinical social workers may incorporate the Code of Ethics of the National Association of Social Workers into its own ethical code.) Other nonprofits may create their own statement that reflects that particular charitable nonprofit's unique mission, activities, and interaction with clients, volunteers, and the public. Whatever the nomenclature, crafting (and revisiting periodically) a written document that articulates the core beliefs of the charitable nonprofit can be useful for practical as well as ethical reasons.

Practice Pointers

   - Having a code of ethics or statement of values helps attract talented employees, recruit board members, retain donors, and of course ensure that all transactions are aligned with the values of the organization.
   - Many organizations post their statement of values/code on their websites to be fully transparent and to demonstrate their organization's commitment to accountability.
   - Nonprofits often engage with clients and consumers in ways that touch on confidential matters so adopting a confidentiality policy demonstrates the nonprofit’s commitment to protect the confidentiality and maintain the trust of those it serves.
   - Here are lots of ideas for ways your nonprofit can demonstrate ethical leadership.

SAMPLE STATEMENTS

   - Statement of Core Values (North Carolina Center for Nonprofits)
   - Code of Ethics (Charles Stewart Mott Foundation)
   - Equity Statement (Nonprofit Association of Oregon)

Resources

   - Code of ethical behavior template (The Foraker Group)
   - Conducting an Ethics Audit (National Council of Nonprofits)
   - Ethical leadership (National Council of Nonprofits)
   - Sample confidentiality policy (National Council of Nonprofits)
   - Cultivating a culture of accountability and transparency (National Council of Nonprofits)
   - Ethics in Fundraising (National Council of Nonprofits)
   - Ethical leadership (National Council of Nonprofits)
