Just so folks know -- as a member of the W3C Web Performance WG, I've made a proposal to identify the protocol in use with the NavigationTiming and ResourceTiming specs using the ALPN protocol identifier; see: http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/public-web-perf/2013Dec/0090.html Note the language about non-UTF-8 identifiers.
