I have made new versions of the transparent content negotiation drafts
available at the usual place:
http://gewis.win.tue.nl/~koen/conneg/
There are two new drafts:
1. draft-ietf-http-negotiation-00.txt
`Transparent Content Negotiation in HTTP'
Defines the core mechanism. Standards track.
2. draft-ietf-http-rvsa-v10-00.txt
`HTTP Remote Variant Selection Algorithm -- RVSA/1.0'
Defines the remote variant selection algorithm version 1.0.
Standards track.
These are the result of splitting the previous draft
draft-holtman-http-negotiation-04.txt in two, as discussed at the December
IETF meeting.
As usual, there are text versions, HTML versions, and versions with
changebars.
Major changes are:
- The scope of the `network negotiation algorithm' has been
limited to variant selection by servers on behalf of the user
agent only. The algorithm has been renamed to `remote variant
selection algorithm', and has been moved to a separate draft.
- A mechanism to negotiate on the use of remote variant selection
algorithms was added.
- The two cases `request from negotiating user agent' and
`request from non-negotiating user agent' have been decoupled
completely.
- A `fallback variant' option has been added.
We hope to do a last call on the first draft above very soon.
There is one small outstanding issue (URN's vs. the neighbors definition)
which did not make it into the drafts, I will report on it later.
Happy reading!
Koen.
