I was wondering about this myself. Are Expires header advisory? Or are they a guarantee that the server will not permit the resource in question to change until after the expiration date? (Perhaps by accepting PUTs and POSTs against it, but returning "202 Accepted" and not returning the updated resource until the expiration time has passed.) ---------- ] From: Larry Masinter <masinter@parc.xerox.com> ] To: <sjk@amazon.com> ] Cc: <netmail!http-wg%cuckoo.hpl.hp.com@hplb.hpl.hp.com> ] Subject: Re: Location Proposals ] Date: Thursday, August 31, 1995 4:32PM ] > Expiration dates in the future are usually guesses, and often ] > overridden by user actions. ] ] I object to this interpretation. Expiration dates *must* be ] conservative. ]
