accept header

Would it make sense for the script to provide the correct "accept"  
headers based on the document types? We have been working on a  
platform that serves content in both XHTML and HTML based on what the  
browser states it will accept, however it appears that even when  
explicitly setting Doctype on the validator to XHTML it still does not  
list application/xhtml+xml in the accept header.
