If I understand the problem correctly (not sure about it),
is the use of the overflow property for pattern the solution?
Per recommendation this is possible, just typical viewers ignore this
unfortunately, what can be considered as a bug - and as already 
discussed previously, the behaviour is undefined, if overflows overlap 
with another repetition of the pattern (should the same paths from 
different repetitions be joined together to a super pattern path, 
what could be pretty useful or are there other meaningful 
representations of the overlap, resulting in patterns of the
symmetry group, the author intended?)
