Guys, Using patented standards only does two things: it makes life tricky for everyone else and helps drive corporate interests further into the W3 standards. Remember the issues with MP3 and GIF? And how we've had to write them out of various open standards? The irony is that BETTER technologies have emerged from teh open source community than these were originally. Promoting open source for any technologies that have not been developed, would be FAR BETTER than joining forces with strong corporate interests as that will only polarize W3 towards corporations.
