It might be a reasonable thing to do so we can have the svg spec finalized, but think about what will happen from now on. Ever company will try to push their patented technology into the w3c specs, would html, and xml be so widely popular if it's full of patents? What will happen to the semantic web vision? What will happen to web developers? do they now have to pay the companies to make a web page? What will happen to Mozilla or even open source product? Can W3C be vendor neutral and universal standard promoter? Or should Apache foundation take over. Mike
