XHTML 1.0 = HTML 5.0? (was Re: XHTML 2.0 considered harmful)

Wait a minute. Now I'm confused. All this time I've been under the 
impression that XHTML 1.0 was equivalent to HTML 5.0, but had a fancy name 
'cause of the XML syntactic changes. The comment above, if I understand it 
right, seems to imply otherwise. So, Huh?
