Try it.  Do either of your methods centre an image horizontally on any 
browser?

What's wrong with <P ALIGN=center><IMG ...></P>?

IMG ALIGN=center doesn't work.  It doesn't centre an image horizontally, 
at least not with Netscape 4.01a, Netscape 3.02, or MSIE 4.0b2.  I could 
try another dozen browsers, but I expect the same result.
