Perhaps an anwer to this lies in using XML/XSLT?
With a single XML source file, and two stylesheets,
one to produce the 'glossy' version, the other the plainer
version, the maint effort is minimal; all work being done
on the XML source. Production is then simply a case
of running a script to produce the two sites.
