When i have a website with many large pictures and large forms, I surely
will make an other version of it for PDAs and i-mote without large
pictures, a logo only in css  and splitting forms in more short pages
that load much faster than for desktop computers.

For different media, different media type for CSS.
Btw, the point is that the main source for content should be the
same,giving possibility to present it in different mode: this is
different instead choose the "text only" or "text mostly" solution.
