Re: Some input for our poll on Disaster Management Systems ontologies [humanitarian-ict]

Carl et al,

Eric Little sent some ontology references to his ontology work on
fusing data data for disasters. The details are below.

This is the first response we got from the Spatial Ontology Community
of Practice (SOCoP).

Hi Gary,

Long time no see. We worked on a disaster management ontology as part
of a larger post-earthquake disaster fusion architecture for AFOSR.
I'm not sure what I can share in terms of the project specifics or the
ontology that was built (which was more theoretical than
implementational btw). But we did publish several things on our
approach and some results that came out of it for ambulance routing
and casualty cluster identification. Those papers are listed below.
In the bibliography are several other papers that were written by
colleagues Rogova, Scott, & Lollett, which dealt with the specific
algorithmic applications that utilized some of the ontological
modeling I did. Best.

Little, E. & Rogova, G. (2009) "Designing Ontologies for Higher-level
Fusion," Journal of Information Fusion, special issue on Higher Level
Fusion, Vol. 10, Issue 1, Elsevier Press.

Little, E. & Vizenor, L. (2006) "Principles for the Development of
Upper Ontologies in Higher-level Information Fusion Applications," in
Proceedings of the 2006 Formal Ontology for Information Systems
Conference, Baltimore, Maryland, November 9-11.

Little, E. & Rogova, G. (2005) "Ontology Meta-Model for Building A
Situational Picture of Catastrophic Events," in Proceedings of the
FUSION 2005-8th International Conference on Multisource Information
Fusion, July 25-29, Philadelphia, PA.
