Bjoern, You raised an issue against the "Assigning Media Types to Binary Data in XML" Last Call WD [1] in your email at [2]. This was accepted by the WSD WG as issue 262 [3]. In order to address the issue, we added a normative reference to RFC 2616 (Section 14.1) as well as explicit rules (and exclusions) for the production rules in Section 2.2.
