i don't yet have a test for that scenario. actually i've been thinking for a while that i should raise an issue, too, which may be related. As i understand it, the spec describes how to decode from characters that include JIS 0208 and JIS 0212, but only encodes those characters in the JIS 0208 range. Which means that you could decode something, edit it, and be unable to reencode it. Which seems odd.
