I'm concerned about implicitly encouraging people to violate [this advice](https://url.spec.whatwg.org/#url-apis-elsewhere).

Finally, I want to capture that you have made a [concrete proposal](https://twitter.com/marcosc/status/545945860895297536) for method names.  Thanks!  This seems to have generated a productive discussion.  Whether in the form of a pull request or simply comments, I encourage the results to be brought back here.
