Attached is a small test suite for determining which HTTP methods are supported by implementations of XHR. I don't have CVS access at moment so can't check it in. It's designed to sit as a peer of WindowTestSuite in the repository and makes some relative URI references to the code in that directory tree.

Note that these tests are designed to be informative so we can determine which methods are currently support. Basic testing on FF1.5 and IE6 on WinXP allow all tested methods.
