I think Robin means:
- traditional applications - the visible OS is native, such as in Tizen, or Android/iOS + a runtime (WAC, PhoneGap...)
- browser extension system - the visible OS is web, such as in Mozilla B2G, where the underlying Linux platform is hidden and there are no native APIs exposed even to the first-class apps.
