The following is our disposition of your above comment: --- Disposition: Future XSL version You list some examples of what the WG terms "layout driven" inheritance. Potentially you would want to specify on a per property basis where the value should be "inherited" from (say via a function analogous to the current "from-parent()"), which could lead to a quite verbose and complex specification in the stylesheet. It would be very interesting to see some experimentation, for example in FOP, of this approach.
