Sending encrypted data via XML using existing parser?

I'm trying to send encrypted data via XML and I'm using the Sun Java XML
parser.  I'm doing a validating parse.  The parse errors out when it
encounter's the binary cipher text.  How do I get around this?  Is the
solution to not validate?
