I was asked to provide a proposal for the resolution of LC issue #385 [1] directed at the SOAP 1.2 Attachment Feature LC WD [2]. Issue description: 1. Conformance clause should be added that would - describe the subject of conformance (a binding specification) - summarizes what does it mean to conform to this specification - List dependencies: describe what other parts of SOAP 1.2 specification/other specifications a binding must conform to in order to conform to this specification PROPOSAL: I used the Conformance text from the XML Infoset rec [3] as a starting point for writing the proposed conformance clause text below: <proposal> Conformance Since the purpose of the Attachment Feature is to provide an abstract model, conformance is a property of binding specifications that use this model, rather than of implementations. Binding specifications referring to the Attachment Feature MUST: -Indicate a means by which the primary and secondary parts are made available to the receiving party. -Indicate a mechanism by which each part is identified using a URI reference. -Indicate a means by which receivers can distinguish the primary and secondary parts. -Conform to the SOAP Protocol Binding Framework described in SOAP version 1.2 Part 1. </proposal> [1] http://www.w3.org/2000/xp/Group/xmlp-lc-issues.html#x385 [2] http://www.w3.org/TR/2002/WD-soap12-af-20020924/ [3] http://www.w3.org/TR/xml-infoset/#conformance --------------------------------- Camilo Arbelaez webMethods, Inc. 703-251-7102 camilo.arbelaez@webmethods.com http://www.webmethods.com/
