[This is a reminder for a Call For Papers I sent out a few months ago.] Doug Lea and I agreed to guest-edit a special theme issue of IEEE Internet Computing on Middleware for Web Services. We're hoping that the folks on these lists who are trying to do something innovative and useful in this area will want to write and submit an article. Here's the official CFP. Middleware for Web Services Special Issue of Internet Computing, January 2003 Submission deadline, 1 June 2002 Guest Editors Doug Lea, SUNY Oswego <dl@cs.oswego.edu> Steve Vinoski, IONA <vinoski@iona.com> Web Services are beginning to flourish. These systems merge ideas and practices from distributed systems, the web, database systems, and XML. Their rapid acceptance invites re-examination of the design and engineering of the middleware supporting web services. For this special issue of Internet Computing, we invite researchers and developers to submit articles describing aspects of both production and research systems. Topics include: * New architectures, designs, components, and protocols * Addressing scalability * Engineering middleware for web services * Applying lessons learned from other systems * Performance evaluation and modeling * Resource management and security * Supporting services such as discovery, routing, and transactions All submissions will be peer reviewed on both their technical merits and their relevance to IC's readers, primarily system/software design engineers. If you are uncertain about your submission's appropriateness, please send an abstract to the Guest Editors for clarification before submission. For author guidelines etc, see links at: http://www.computer.org/internet/ --steve
