The list of needs ("...to ensure message integrity and privacy, the need to
be aware of delivery semantics, and the need to support more complex
exchange patterns for long-lived sessions and for transactional semantics")
should be explicityly referred to as a non-exhaustive list of examples.
Language like 'such needs as...' would do the trick.
I'd be more comfortable if the last sentence were more explicit about
allowing, but not defining, these mechanisms in the core protocol.
