The obvious thing to do is fix it in the new version of the standard (though this would have some undesirable consequences for software that uses machine- generated code compiled from the ASN.1). But that made me wonder what the status of the revision actually is. http://lcweb.loc.gov/z3950/agency/revision/revision.html talks about Z39.50-2001, it was last updated in 2002, and now it's 2003!
