CC-interop project: large-scale resource discovery issues

Hello all... with apologies for cross-posting.

The following reports (in pdf format) may be of interest to those concerned with interoperability:

'Extending the SCONE collection descriptions database for cc-interop' http://ccinterop.cdlr.strath.ac.uk/documents/ExtendingSconeES.pdf
'A Comparative Study of the Performance of COPAC and Selected Independent Z39.50 Servers' http://ccinterop.cdlr.strath.ac.uk/documents/WPA_server_tests_summary_Issue1pt1.pdf
	'Transforming a clump into a Z-target: a feasibility study' http://ccinterop.cdlr.strath.ac.uk/documents/Clump_ztarget_issue1_0.pdf
'Establishment of an M25 Z39.50 target and testing using a COPAC interface' http://ccinterop.cdlr.strath.ac.uk/documents/wpa-4-report.pdf

They have been produced by CC-interop (COPAC/Clumps Continuing Technical Cooperation Project). This UK project, funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee, is examining various issues relevant to the creation of large-scale/national catalogue services. The above reports document the project team's findings on: the creation of collection-level metadata; the impact of institutional indexing and cataloguing practices on semantic interoperability; and the utilisation of middleware (specifically JAFER) to effect technical interoperation between physical union and multiple distributed (Z39.50-enabled) catalogues.
