ZIG meeting agenda

We still have plenty of room for agenda items for
the ZIG meeting, so please speak up if there are
additional topics we should discuss, or if you
would like to give a briefing or presentation. Or
please otherwise share your thoughts on how we can
make this meeting most productive.

As it stands now the meeting likely would end at
noon on Friday, and there is some consideration to
moving some of the Bath agenda items to Friday
afternoon, particularly those Bath items of
interest to the ZIG, for example, character
encoding, registration of character sets, bib-2
searches, and negotiation of profiles. However the
first two of these items are likely to be short
discussions: The character encoding issues seem to
be reaching settlement, and there is no firm
proposal for element sets. Bib-2 is already
otherwise on the agenda.

A brief rundown of agenda items:

-- Character encoding and element sets: as I
mentioned above, character encoding seems to be
nearly settled, and there isn't a proposal for
element sets. These two might total an hour,
maximum.

-- Z39.50-2001 Revision: This is intended as
simply a briefing (10 minutes) not a discussion.

-- Bib-2: 45 minute briefing by Lennie and
Barbara

-- ZING: We're planning to present an update, in
the form of several presentations. With
discussion, perhaps 2 hours, though this could be
extended if there is sufficient interest.

-- Pofiles: Bill moen will present an update on
Profile work. Perhaps an hour.

ZOOM: Unfortunately, I don't think Mike is going
to be at the meeting, and at this point there is
nobody to present this. If there is, it will be
about an hour session.

Explain: Following the recent list discussion of
Explain, Sebastian formed a separate list (he
posted a message to the ZIG). There has been
significant activity on that list, and the plan is
to present this work at the meeting. However it
still isn't clear if anyone from that group will
attend the meeting.

Adding this up, the agenda doesn't appear to fill
more that a day-and-a-half even if there is
someone to represent each topic.

Please share ideas on how we can make this meeting
productive.
